Accessible Housing Inclusio Project
Overview
Calgary Accessible Housing was referred to us through our work with Easter Seals. They originally contacted us regarding a simple automation question. We invited them to our professional showroom where we demonstrated systems we had previously designed for disabled clients. We encouraged the Inclusio team to see these systems in real life settings; they visited our limited mobility clients’ homes so they could personally show the technology in use. Impressed by what they saw, they knew it was a natural fit to collaborate and integrate similar solutions into their Inclusio Project.
Inclusio is Calgary’s first fully accessible and affordable apartment complex located in the community of Capital Hill. The facility was designed for adults (18-65) with low income and limited mobility, who require some assistance with their daily lives. It features 45 studio apartments, shared common living spaces on each floor, a dining room and meal services, beautiful views overlooking Confederation Park and patio spaces. Inclusio provides access to a variety of support for daily living activities such as health care aides and case management services.
This transformative facility was made possible in part by generous donations from: the Government of Alberta, R. Charlie Guille & Family, Bill Kujat & Family, Centron Group of Companies, RGO Products Ltd., BMO Financial Group, Trico Homes, Heather and Ian Bourne and Stantec.
Criteria
- Design a smart technology & integrated system allowing residents to have autonomy.
- Create customized applications specific to the individual needs of the residents.
How the Criteria Was Met
Digital Lifestyles partnered with Accessible Housing with the mandate to help those with limited mobility live independently by automating their daily tasks. We built the complete infrastructure that allows each resident to overcome obstacles interacting with their environment, ultimately allowing residents to reach their full potential.
Using a simple interface on their phone or tablet, residents will now be able to control their environment. This includes automating light switches, fans, blinds, thermostats, security systems, entertainment packages (TV, movies, music) and motorized door openers.
We will be meeting one on one with residents of the building to customize the technology applications specific to their needs and will provide ongoing technical support and upgrades as required.
